“When we made that proposal, we told them it was important that they give us a timely response. Unfortunately, they have not been able to do that.”

This is Japan. The only thing you get a timely answer instead of panels being formed and heaps of debate is if you don't pay your bills/taxes on time.

makes sense for the smaller market teams. They shouldn't have to pay exorbitant fees for a player coming out of the equivalent of Triple A ball.

Please tell me why this system exist. I can't understand it. If I work for Toyota and a U.S. auto company wanted to hire me, the U.S. auto company would not have to BID just to talk to me. Give me a contract that beats anything Toyota is willing to pay me and I'll work for you. When is someone in the MLB players' union and a smart owner or two going to step up and say, "We don't have to pay you anything to hire a player." I don't think any court would/could stop it if any of the U.S. teams said, "we're just going to offer him a contract and if he agrees to play he's ours."

movieguy,

Even so, they would still need a release from the Eagles because Tanaka signed an Eagles contract that's still in effect. Can't just break a previous contract. The MLB team pretty much has to first buyout the Eagles contract as reparation.

the root of the problem is the old guard owners in NPB who have guaranteed slaves for 9 years. If they don't like the return on a player they can force them to stay at their clubs.

movieguy: Ford to Toyota will be better example of yours. Who want to quit Japan Inc. to go to UAW donimated Ford or GM in cold Michigan? From robotic and automated Japan Inc auto companies to out-of-dated Ford and GM/ Please wirte realistic example. Now, wealthy MLB teams don't mind this. They lost competitors. Watch who Dodgers and Angels recruit form other countries.

lostrune2 - Thanks! I had forgotten he was still under a regular contract, but I was just talking about the ability to play anywhere once a contract is finished. They don't give nine year contracts so as long as they are not under contract any court would say they have the right to go anywhere without the stupid posting system.

toshiko - Let's stay on topic. ANY example I give would fit the scenario, but since you want to show the superiority of Japan let's say a Sony employee wanted to work at Apple. What's Sony, you ask? A washed up, out dated company from the 90s that hasn't done anything, but lose money for decades.

movieguy:"Don;t think I want to show superiority of Japan just because I use Toshiko. Stereotyping Japanese people in Japan? I live in Nevada, USA, not Japan. Any Sony employee who want to work for APPLE in Silicon Valley. they just have to go to employment office and apply for one of openings. No problem. Just prepare moving expense after you are employed. Private manufacturing companies do not demand contracts to employees because it is against slaverly laws in USA. Entertainment performers get contract. Contract workers are not day to day workers, They get plenty money using their aides. Like Madonna, Ga Ga. I agree to stay on topic -baseball not other business. Obey your motto - stay on Baseball, not manufacturer.

ssony Entertainm 3nt in USA has a bunch of people want to work there so Sony entertainment icouldn;t care less. Employees moving to another cxompany does freely in USA. Just bring your resume and apply if there is opening for your desire. .
