Teenager Ishikawa gets 1st professional golf win

KOKA —

Sixteen-year-old golfer Ryo Ishikawa picked up his first title as a professional Sunday with a victory at the Kansai Open.  Ishikawa, who became the youngest Japanese tour event winner in May last year and turned pro in January, shot a final-round 69 that gave him a four-stroke win at the regional tournament in western Japan with a 72-hole total of 12-under-par 276.

Ishikawa is playing in his first year as a pro after his victory at the Munsingwear KSB Cup earned him exemption on the JGTO circuit through the 2009 season. He has had two top-10 finishes this year on the top-tier Japanese circuit. Sunday’s victory at Shiga Golf Club also gave him a spot in the Japan Open in October. The Kansai Open is not an official JGTO event.

No zzz in Japan. He's the one who's sparking lots of practice for the younger generation. Why not wake up and see his play as a positive.
