His days are done. Will probably go back to the bong.

MaboDoful - umm - I think you are referring to Phelps, mate. You've been on the bongs I reckon. Look, individual 100m is not Thorpie's go - never was. He will still make the top 6 for his pet 200m to make the relay team. Whether it was worth coming back just for that, I dunno. But as a fan I hope he gets faster and soon!

That's better Thorpie - he qualified 4th fastest for the 200 final. He will make the 200 relay team for sure - I just hope he improves more so he can swin individuals at London.

His manager blames the public for Thorpe's failures, claiming that the public demand for him to win is too much pressure for him to cope with.
I haven't yet met one person who actually cares about Ian Thorpe. Most people think he should just give it up.

I dunno Tel Porter. I think the old fellas Thorpie, Klim and Hueghill bring something to the spectacle - it gets boring just seeing teenagers win all the time. Make no mistake - Thorpie is still very very popular in his home city, Sydney. He will make the team, I have no doubts at all now, and has 5 months to get quicker. Hope Klim and Hueghill also make it to London. We need these old guys pressuring the young kiddies for their spots.

I live in Sydney, the general attitude is "you're embarrassing yourself and blaming us, go away."
Huegill's comeback was inspirational and he's very humble. Ian Thorpe's seemed to be about the money and endorsements right from the very beginning.

@ tel porter- you must hang out with negative people if most are saying that - unfortunately many aussies now are like that, knocking any famous person who gets to the top. You see it everywhere - even our cricket team which has won a few games lately cops a never ending barrage of Aussie haters. In Thorpe's case, he has everything to lose and not much to gain and is having a go. True Aussie sports fanatics like me and my mates respect and support great champions and those willing to put themselves on the line. Kind of like Japanese people get behind their sportspeople and don't try and hack them down.
Thorpe - Greatest Aussie olympian ever - and who would bet against gold number 6 in the 200m relay in London - I wouldn't! Haters gonna hate - Thorpie probably doesn't give a rats...
