Is it still time when people ask you where you from you need to look around before you say Kentucky?

Is it still time when people ask you where you from you need to look around before you say Kentucky?

How is your bizarre question related to the article? Did you even read it?

"The golfing world was left reeling Saturday after caddie Steve Williams made a racist remark about his former boss Tiger Woods at an awards dinner.

"New Zealander Williams made the remark during the annual caddies' awards at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai."

Have we come to a time when if people ask you something you have to look around you before replying?

Ah. So you're saying it's OK to be racist, so long as you're racist only in front of the right people.

Rather than calling you names and have the mod remove my post, I'll just say that I strongly disagree with you.

Williams is just upset that he can't make millions from his boss anymore. Maybe the comment will get Tiger fired up for the next tournament, but since he's still the highest paid American athlete, I doubt that each little tournament is very meaningful to Tiger.

I may be ignorant, but can someone explain the great importance of caddies besides hauling a heavy bag of golf clubs around, and maybe recording the score? Do they give amazing advice or backrubs or something?

remained loyal during the legend’s notorious sex scandal.

And that's where the anger comes from.

Let it go Steve and STFU. To be fair it was at a roast, maybe that encouraged the brain fart?

I always thought this guy was an idiot. This just confirms it.

tmtmsnb - what in the world do u mean by your comment?? It sounds like you are excusing the racist remark, no?

John Becker, no, I was rephrasing tmtmsnb's post as unreconstructed could not understand it.

May I say that I think most people are racist. Most manage to keep it under control, some they let it out, and only the very rare ones maintain an innocent heart through adulthood.

These latter few are what give humanity hope, IMHO.

Nevertheless there were calls in the British media for Williams to be sacked by world number eight Scott and thrown out of the game.

F n hell. That's coming from the country where Footballer John Terry called an opponent a "f....ing black c#*t" two weeks back, and he has still been selected to play for his country next weekend.

I wanted to shove it right up that black a---hole.

Unbelievable. My eyes bleed to read it. "Brown a---hole" I could accept. "Tanned half Asian a---hole" would be better though, but "Black" is just way out of line. He is from NZ though, and down there, to be called black, All Black, black face, black ass, etc is considered a hell of a complement, especially after winning the World Cup the other week.

Partners for 12 years + Best man at Williams wedding = turns out he hates blacks. Unlikely. Just a extremely pissed of former best mate. They might get over it, and get back together in time. Just look at Simon and Garfunkel. Years of cheap shots, but they got back together when the time was right.

What l would like to know is since when is refering to a person by their skin color racist? Is it really racist to describe a white person as white? A black person as black?

This comment by the caddy refering to Woods as a black a****** is not nice agreed but is it really racist? It seems that the word black is the issue here, to put it in perspective though was it racist to describe President Obama as America's first black president? After all many news outlets did just that for example "to vote for a black candidate appeared to be unfounded" this comment is from a major UK newspaper. Is this racist? Even this site has refered to Obama as a black president " Here, in the year 2008, there is finally a Black candidate" yet here we are saying that Woods ex caddy is racist for calling him black. Are we getting to precious?

I answered you, but the MODs removed them, so please ask them.

afterearthquake, Spidapig- Both your arguments are disingenuous and silly. I'm sure neither of you are so stupid as to not know the difference between calling someone "the first black president" and "a black arsehole" (Williams exact words). My guess is Williams was just hopelessly naive and ignorant, as are so many who grew up in an almost exclusively white culture. I'll bet the both of you have felt the sting and complained over similarly ignorant comments against foreigners if you both live in Japan.

    calm down

hoser,he didn't call Tiger a black arsehole,he caddied for Scott to win the Bridgestone and said tiger can shove it (that win)up his black arsehole ...Tiger should laugh if anything

calm down - does that somehow make it any better? Look, I'm not asking for the guy to be crucified, I actually think he is ignorant more than anything, but don't tell me his comments aren't tinged with a measure of racism. Tiger is an ahole to be sure, but to point out he can shove it up his "black" ahole rather than just his a**hole is meant to belittle and dehumanize him even more. THAT is where the racism is and that's where Williams crossed the line.

Actually Steve and Tiger "had" a relationship where black humor and such politically incorrect things were said freely. Steve obviously forgot he crowd he was talking to and over reached. It's between the two of them. British media commenting on racism is the pot calling the kettle black. Why is black so often used to express a negative when in business it's a sign of profit?

spudman - You got me there. I declare Steve Williams not racist.

some would see Williams' statement as being one of fact. The colour is certainly accurate... and by all accounts the the other adjective fit s the boat too.

Most of you know little about S Williams. The guy is not very bright.... (left school at 15 to carry people's clubs around). He has always had a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease - Those of you that an issue with the adjective "black" to describe someone who is "black"...wtf?

Frankly that kind of language is used often in NZ (and Oz too) and in context we have no issue with it. Sadly, the ultra-PC sensibilities of the Poms and the Yanks are more the real story here.
