Rio has overwelming 86 percent public support. This will be most likely be a historic first Olympics in South America. When Tokyo, Japan took the survey, they only had slightly over 50 percent public support. The govenment was ready to only spend about $2.7 billion dollars on this event. Due to economic situations in Japan, the timing for this massive event was not warmly received by the public, which is understandable. Regardless, even if Emperor did not go to Copenhagen, It didn't matter. Majority of the public prefers that govenment spend the money on helping the current domestic problems rather than this event.

Rio has to live up to the Sydney Olympics and at least match it. I'm pretty sure they can and hopefully it will never be the 'scam' that BSjin put on.

We spend millions of our tax dollars to send the 0bama's -- worshipped by the international community -- and the U.S. didn't even get the bronze medal in this event. Unbelievable.

Burakumindesu: "Many people will now be questioning the sway or influence that Obama really has...his reputation is seriously damaged on the world stage, this is an even bigger fail than his War on Afghanistan!!! "

Umm...it's the Olympics dude ! Very funny post.

CoolCali..."Sydney Olympics sucked." I think you will find that all of the facilities in Sydney (with the exception of the baseball stadium - who plays baseball?) are used frequently. Many are continuing to stage World/Aus. championships. The Homebush redevolpment was, surprisingly a success. I doubt many other Olympic sites in other countries are utilised as much. Have you even been to Sydney? Do a little research next time.

OK Potsu, well, maybe losing the games won't be seen by rational people as Obama's failing but the rabid right-wingers in the States will pick up on it. His failure in Afghanistan is altogether worse...

How great the opening ceramony will be in Rio!! They should just move the carnival into the ceramony and let audience to participate. It would be the event of the 21st century.
