can't see how tokyo would ever win the olympics....its not about whether its capable or a nice place to be, but the key criteria of benefiting the local area just can't be justified in Tokyo. Which poor area in tokyo needs total re-development like Stratford in London? Any takers on this subject? Which areas of Tokyo needs re-development? Does Chiba count?
I've surfed on internet in Japanese again. I can hardly find affirmative comments to Olympic on forums. Many people said it is wasteful. Others said Ishihara's brain has got off the point.
It's just not going to happen Shintaro, for the simple reason that continents take turns getting the Olympics. The US gets about every 5th Olympics so it will be their turn when 2016 rolls around because Atlanta got the games in 1996. 8 years after China is way too soon.
I think Tokyo and Chicago are a tough match but I am biased because Chicago area is home. They share the same transportation challenges among other things. Chicago has more space for venues but Tokyo is safer. Rio is an exotic city but they'd have to have the whole army out on the streets to control the crime. I say either one is good for me becasue I can make a point to see the games. rjd right on with your comments on China's getting the games. Can't poke Japan in the eye after that huge blunder.
I hope Japan gets it! But kind of ironic that Ishihara would condone an event that would bring more of the people from around the globe to Japan, that he despises!
Considering that the good ship Shingin is on the rocks for a whole lot of money, I wouldn't trust Captain Blinky with the milk money, let alone an Olympic bid.
The Japanese still uses that ancient saying, "money talks, BS walks". I believe that saying still has leagues of fans as a valid currency in the world.

Heh - especially if sumo is made an Olympic sport and that blinker Kisensato participates.

Yeah, Rio de Janeiro is best. Many Japanese agree Rio de Janeiro on Yahoo Japan's forum.

I can't agree with Tokyo Olympic as a Japanese. Ishihara, don't steal my money as tax.

If Tokyo does not get it the main (only?) reason will be that Beijing is too close to Tokyo. Not that I hope Tokyo gets the Olympics though.

japan's policy, as with everything, is to out-bribe its competitors

Ishihara instructed government officials. We will have to struggle in dirty competition. Yeah, he had declared offering bribe.
