Geez, they might be the final nail in the coffin with their lack of charisma and boring personalities.

USA wants games,it could boost image/US economy. Same for japan, they hope for China like business profit from games and international attention.

Brazil wants olympics too,it may bring more international connections in business for them. Madrid wants games ,because they bring a kind of positive outlook among citizens of host nation .

80 days to go for bid decision day in October 2nd,2009( 2-09-2009). There is always 2020 olympics for the cities, who will be sidelined.

It's a test to Japan to see if the nation really wants it. It sounds like the couple will be forced to go and smile even against their will. Should the couple not go most certainly Tokyo will not win. Either way I don't want tokyo to win anyway.

Will the IOC delegates be able to ask him questions outside of the scripted ones given to them?? Heaven forbid we couldn't have anyone asking a really tough question he might not know the answer to!!!!

Poor Crown Prince. See what kind of events you have to go to when you demonstrably have nothing better to do? To paraphrase Mel Brooks... It's good to be the king... NOT.

My goodness, they've just gotten back from Canada - surely the two zombies couldn't handle another trip abroad for at least a couple years!

Tokyo won't win due in no small part to recent gaijin upheaval and the help of some of us in directing foreign media towards Japan's child porn/abduction/rape/molestation/"chidol" issues.

The Olympics should go to Brazil. Only one country in the southern Hemisphere - Aus - has held the Olympics...it's due back there! Besides, Tokyo is congested enough, the commuting of tourists in the olympics would be a nightmare, and the image of Japan would probably take a battering. Salarymen would be rudely taking all the seats on the subways!

nah Kandamanada, that was the Emperor in Canada, not the Crown Prince. I dont think sending the Emperor to represent Tokyo's bid for the Olympics would make a very convincing sales pitch! anyway, will Masako be well enough to make the trip? I doubt it. Crown Prince will travel alone as usual.

  • kanadamanada at 08:57 PM JST - 15th July

    Mistersmarmy,

My bad. Thanks for pointing that out!

Great. Ishihara will write a screen play for the whole event, depicting how the Crown Prince enters, answers question (in the spirit of verisimilitude), cannot be asked anything off script, and cannot answer IF a foreign IOC member has the gall to go above Ishihara.

Then when the IOC members wonder who on earth they're talking too and Ishihara just takes on his usual senile look... well...

In short, like some others on here, I'm wondering what effect it could possibly have in favour of the Olympics coming to Tokyo.

  • sf2k at 01:11 AM JST - 16th July

Only Japanese are impressed with the royal family to the extent that it's quite meaningless to an IOC member. I can't see what effect it will have on anyone other than, 'oh'. It might backfire, as it doesn't add any tangible reason to pick Tokyo. Tokyo needs reasons not more questions.

    78 DAYS TO GO.

I agree, with all who support Brazil and believe Year 2016 olympics should go to the Brazilian people. Brazil will do fine to host the games and being 5th most populated nation, time it went there.

After all China and USA, most populated nation and 3rd most populated had their turns.

Time for Brazilians to host as 5th most populated nation and they are more than ready for it.

Time also for world nations,to visit brazil in 2016 and explore its potentials.

I'd like to send some news articles to the IOC about the Japanese police and their treatment of foreigners. There is no way this city should get the Olympics.
