I'm doubting that unless he has died he will not be losing power in Tokyo and definitely not stepping down.

No surprise here, it's always cherry blossoms! Can't wait to see the mascot.

More money wasted for Ishihara's pipe dreams.

@tmarie: I think 2020 would be a good date for the Summer Games to be held again in Tokyo, as long as infrastructure construction is done in a well-planned way to benefit Tokyoites for decades beyond.

Get the house in order, pay the unprecedented bills off, re-construct Tohoku. These are priorities - perhaps make a bid for 2032 or 2036.

Not a priority for Japan, or any country for that matter. The Olympics are the biggest money waster out there. I say keep the Olympics in one place all the time rather than burden taxpayers of countries vying for the games and also to stop the corruption that goes into the selection process. Summer, always in Athens. Winter, always in the European Alps. Done and done.

Seriously Japan is in major economic problems at the moment and the same year as a major disaster!

One would hope that the government does not need this to be a catalyst for helping rebuild Tohoku. Reconstruction should be a priority regardless of whether or not Tokyo hosts the Olympics.

These games costs cities millions on dollars. Have you looked at the Japanese economy? Tokyo can't afford to run again let alone pay for the games. Where is the infrastructure going to come from? Who's going to pay for it? The majority of Tokyoites don't want the games. Why Ishihara can't get this through his head is beyond me. Tokyo has tons of places for sports. They don't need any more.
Also, I don't think they can promise safe and clean food and water. They can't know and with the truth slowly leaking out...
Though if they bride the committee enough like they did with Nagano... who knows?

It's not an Olympic logo. It's a bid logo.

The logo is way to gaudy.

Tokyo doesn't need any reconstruction or revival because of the Tohoku earthquake. Tohoku does though, so how about Sendai put in a bid for Olympic city? Blinky Ishihara (who decided that the earthquake and tsunami was "tenbatsu" or divine punishment for the arrogance of the people in the affected areas and somehow still got re-elected) is now on the Fukushima bandwagon so that he can get his hands on even more money to misappropriate. He uses the cheery blossom as the symbol for the bid after personally attempting to ban hanami this year. What a total arse this man really is.

I think the Logo should be a simple outline of one of the nuclear plants that blew up.

The funding is already secured by Tokyo and is collecting interest. If you're interested where the infrastructure is coming from, you can click on the last 2016 bid proposal.
