Congrats to Japan -- first and third. But where are all the posters from just yesterday complaining about the Chinese rigging the judging?

It's only bid-rigging and bad judging if Japan doesn't win gold, as you know. You could see it all with the, "This is what we fear with competitions that have judging" -- which literally means they know, and yet participate in, sports they think are judged unfairly but hope go their way. How is that a measure or skill? Heck, one of the posters on yesterday's thread said, "China can keep their swimming competition! No one in the world cares!" literally in regards to this gym event.
In any case, this has got to take some of the sting out of the loss to China, and Uchimura is still probably the best guy out there on the mats. Congratulations to him and the others, of ALL nationalities.

Congratulations to King Kohei! You truly are the GOAT. Such power blended nicely with artistry. And even in winning, he remained humble by saying he was not quite satisfied and wish he had a bit more perfection on some of his landings. It will be interesting to see if he can win a sixth World title along with defending his Olympic gold in two years.

Awesome job! I'd settle for half the power and discipline he shows.

What's not mentioned here is that they stopped playing Japan's national anthem halfway through. Uchimura played it well as he just gave a wry smile.

A great display by Uchimura and all the competitors; I can't begin to imagine the bruises they have collected whilst perfecting those moves.

Didn't know that. I think such a thing is distasteful, regardless of your thoughts about the nation (whose anthem is playing) and what the anthem might stand for. And even though many who stand for the anthem are forced to on threat of punishment by the government these days, I believe in the case of athletes in international competition even if they don't particularly like the Japanese anthem they still stand up with pride and maybe even sing it with pride at such times. To willfully cut it for any reason while others are played all the way through is just plain insulting.
