Bad, bad Asa! Shaking the handsome Bulgarian around like a rag doll. How could he do that to the beautiful Prince of Sumo?

Took Asa a while to calm down after the fight. He was a raging bull today. Loved it.

Noticed how he kept his left arm out from grabbing the belt, on the outside, which hurt him yesterday? Smart! Notice that swing with the bad arm at Kotooshu at the end after it was just about over? An angry man!

Japanese Sumo needs Asa big time. There is nobody else with his charisma and sheer fury on the dohyo. Hakuho is a great wrestler, but is as interesting as a face flannel. I loved the way he stared through Kotooshu today. Asa didn't walk away until Kotooshu did and he literally tore into Kotooshu from the off. Fierce.

No. 12 maegashira Tochiozan (9-2) dropped a further win off the pace after getting mugged by seventh-ranked Hokutoriki

I know times are tough in the Sumo stable these days, but mugging opponent wrestlers is just uncalled for.

He was a Japanese wrestler, so it's ok.

Yeah, that roundhouse slap after Koto had already lost was a little over the top. Maybe a lot over the top. Reminds me of that post-victory push Asa tried to give Hakuho a while back.. bad sportsmanship. I agree that Asa's aggression makes the sport a lot more interesting, but, dang boy, lay off the angry juice!

shaking helpless Kotooshu (8-3) around like a rag doll

Beg to differ here! This was one of the better tachiai for Koto and he put up a good fight until Asa could lock on to his arm.

Also Asa could hold up his usual last push - much more tamed down than other times! Where did you see the anger and the fierce in this fight exactly? Just faster thinking and good execution! I admit he is getting back and his confidence is rising which is good for the sumo I guess...

It was a great fight, but it nearly had a controversial ending. Imagine if Asashoryu had connected with the swing at the end of the match. Looked like it might have hurt a bit. Glad he didn't connect, and looking forward to Asashoryu fighting Hakuho on the last day. Todays bout with Baruto may be pretty exciting too.

Sumo is watchable because of Kotooshyu. More precisely speaking, women watch sumo because of Kotoshyu. I do not know why men watch sumo though.

  • Asahak at 10:51 PM JST - 22nd January

Nonsense. I am a woman and I don`t care about the Bulgarian at all.

  • ExPrinceska at 11:25 PM JST - 22nd January

Asahak, sorry for generalizing but in my case, my pulse accelerates when I see Kotooshyu on the dohyo. I cry from happiness everytime he wins.

  • Asahak at 01:31 AM JST - 24th January

And what do you do when he looses, which is quite often :-)?
