Urawa held by Kyoto in Nabisco Cup

KYOTO —

Urawa Reds’ lackluster start to the season continued Sunday after they were held to a 3-3 draw by promoted Kyoto Sanga in the J-League Nabisco Cup. Kyoto tops Group A with four points from two games while Nagoya Grampus picked up their first win in the other game, Yuki Maki’s late header securing all three points in a 1-0 defeat of Kobe.

Shingo Akamine scored both goals as FC Tokyo moved into the winning column with a 2-0 triumph at Jubilo Iwata and sit one point behind Group B leaders Shimizu S-Pulse, who were held to a goalless draw away to Tokyo Verdy. In Group C, Consadole Sapporo recorded their first win since being promoted back to the top flight after goals from Chong Yong De and Hiroyuki Nishijima saw them come from behind to beat struggling Kawasaki Frontale 2-1. The local derby between two-time Nabisco Cup winners JEF United Chiba and Kashiwa Reysol finished 1-1. Yokohama F Marinos remained in command in Group D after a 0-0 draw away to Omiya Ardija, while Roberto’s 73rd-minute effort sealed Oita Trinita’s 3-0 win at home to Albirex Niigata.
