Shame really, read a couple of english fans were in critical condition. Kicking off in other cities too (Lyon, Nice). Love the idea of a 24 teams euro problem is it also multiplies the rivalries/potential number of clashes.

But everyone knew it would be a hot euro.

Whenever England are involved in a soccer tournament, you can be sure of two things: A heartbreaking result and exit; "fans" getting involved in riots that "weren't their fault".

@buraku, all euro hools want, among other things, an english scalp. What are the brits supposed to do? A euro with or without england was always going to be a logistical nightmare.

tbh, it`s not just the English that cause problems. Marseille is well known for its youth problems and football hooligan scene. Add to the mix some military-style russian gangs (who are known to have practiced for these types of events in the past), through some alcohol in the mix, and there you go....

In this case, it was clearly not only the England fans. Fans were being provoked by troublemakers on both sides. It doesn't help that the match was in Marseilles, a heavily populated muslim area which caused friction - for example, you had the usual low class drunk idiots dressed as crusaders. They ruin it for the rest of us. Authorities should arrest and tag the proven troublemakers. A minimum fine, say, 2500 Euros should be paid. More important, Interpol should use a database to ensure that they are banned from any sporting event for life with strictly no exceptions.

A bit of both here. England fans were attacked but you have to say international games see the 'patriotic' English scum crawl out of the woodwork. I heard some were shouting "Brexit!'.

Patriotism and ale. Never a good mix.

I do not envy France at all.

Soccer always seems to have these problems. Maybe the Wendyballers need to look at rugby and how opposing fans seem to get along just fine.

"Wendyballers"

Aw, the Kiwis and Canadians are throwing their rattles out of their prams again because people around the world generally couldn't care less about their sports.

Kawaii.

Fellow Brit Jimizo and I share a lot of common ground on certain subjects. Whilst the Russian gangs are bad enough, attacking families and innocent England fans, the 'patriotic' beer-fuelled England supporter is the worst kind. Dragging right-wing politics into English football and bent on ruining everyones day out. All the other innocent England fans then get dragged into it bearing the brunt of police and locals.
