In the heats, White looked imperious where as Iouri fell and then scraped through with a safe run, what a comeback. Incredible progression in the sport of halfpipe. Shame about the condition of the pipe, the worlds best athletes on the worlds best stage on a mediocre pipe, The daytime heats were tragic. The pipe freezing a bit during the night final and obviously some quick maintenance made some difference. wow, Shaun White, the king no more. hats off to all he has achieved, still the best of the Americans though, where was that loudmouth Davis, 10th?

Japan. 2 and 3 though! well done those boys!

Who cares if he didn't win? He's still a legend and has won quite well for his nation and himself up to now. At least we can stop seeing the goofy pic of him that the broadcasters kept putting up alongside stoic pics of the Japanese athletes. Hirano was amazing, and I was a little surprised to wake up this morning and find he got the silver and not the gold, and a good comeback from Hirooka after his wipe-out earlier. Let the medal count for Japan begin!

Any event where judges subjectively assign points for tricks/moves is a joke. It's a stretch to call it a sport.

USNinJapan: I agree, to an extent. You should have seen them deciding on the second to last skier in the women's freestyle yesterday evening. It took them near five minutes to decide, with even the commentators saying, "The judges seem to be in trouble deciding".

And he is the only household name in the event. Down the line, "I-Pod" will just be known as that guy who beat Shaun White like Buster Douglas is only known as the guy who knocked out Mike Tyson.
