Congratulations Venus, congratulations Serena! I can't wait to go home and watch the match on news tonight...:)

Looking forward to the reporting on news tonight too :-) Good that the "Hantuchova pair" got this far but the Williams sisters are too good. My only question is how Serena can manage to play such top-level tennis for several consecutive days in the Melbourne heat even though the stadium roof was closed. If she wins tomorrow's singles finals, then she'll be the world's #1 again and would have deserved it.

Tough! I just finished watching the 1hr NHK news (9-10pm) and there was no report on the final!!!!!! I don't know whether I should be surprised or not. Is this sour grapes? Childishness?
I guess I was right yesterday when I said that had Sugiyama lost in the semi-finals, there'd be no more reporting on the AO. No bias there, right? You know, I'm sure there are absolutely no Japanese viewers out there who are interested in tennis in general.

Just plain sour grapes.

The point of the NHK (and others) reports is not to inform you about what is happening in the event, it is to inform you that a Japanese athlete is taking part in the event and is doing well. When they stop doing well then there is nothing to report on then is there. Also look for lots of people to start talking about moving the Australian Open to March or April. Aus is unbearably hot even in a normal January, and I don't even want to think about what it is like in a record heatwave. And most of the matches take place on courts with no roof.

Well, that's no surprise since NHK sucks for reporting. As for me, I saw about two minutes of highlights dedicated to the final on Fuji Sporto news (channel 8). They also had it on Nippon Television (Channel 4 on terrestrial lines) a little while after that. You really should stop watching NHK, since that would really justify not paying the subscription fees.
Also, I saw it live on WOWOW. It was a good match, but it was clear that the Williams sisters were much more insync.

if sugiyama hadn't made it to the finals, the japanese media wouldn't have acknowledged that the williams sisters were in australia. jingoism, pure and simple.

Yes, I'm just glutton for punishment. But there are many days when I am tired when I get home from work, and it's just so easy to switch the TV on. Unfortunately, I don't have WOWOW and I don't want to pay for something I'm not going to have time to watch.
Serena has just whipped Safina's *ss 6-0, 6-3. Well done, gal! I predict her next AO win will be in 2011.

I also learned that it was shown on BS-1 as well (which is a cable station costing at the same low rate you would pay for cable in other countries like the U.S.).

To add, I also predict Serena will have a great year. Here's to ya, Serena! You go girl!

freakashow, really? Didn't know that, but still I don't mind dishing out a little money to watch sports programs live in their entirety.
