Unfortunately Tanaka is going though a very difficult and challenging time. I hope he doesn't believe everything in the new media and press. This is not good when the physician diagnosed him with a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament. He will have to rest and go through rehabilitation for six week hopefully to avoid the Tommy John surgery. We all remember what happened to Matsuzaka Daisuke. So Tanaka's fate remains to be unseen. Ultimately it will be his decision if surgery becomes necessary. Hopefully he will be able to return and stay around for a long time. I wish him well.

I feel terrible for Tanaka. He is one of the best pitchers to come along in a very long time and was having an MVP year. And now this. It sucks for any pitcher to go through but what a waste in this case...

TJ surgery: Dr will decide, not amatuer's guess/

Tommy John Surgery, known in medical practice as ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, is a surgical graft procedure in which the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with a tendon from elsewhere in the body. The procedure is common among collegiate and professional athletes in several sports, most notably baseball.

The procedure was first performed in 1974 by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Frank Jobe, then a Los Angeles Dodgers team physician who served as a special advisor to the team until his death in 2014. It is named after the first baseball player to undergo the surgery, former major league pitcher Tommy John, whose 288 career victories ranks seventh all time among left-handed pitchers. The initial operation, John's successful post-surgery career, and the relationship between the two men is the subject of a 2013 ESPN 30 for 30 Shorts documentary

With the high pitching counts he had to endure at High School ( he threw 742 pitches in 6 games in the 2006 Summer HS tournament) and in the Japanese professional leagues (he threw 160+ pitches in the penultimate game of the Japan Series and returned the next day in relief!!) the wear and tear on his elbow and subsequent injury were almost inevitable. Japanese coaches still persist with overly lengthy training regimes and leave their pitchers in games for too long. It's Tanaka's previous coaches and managers, like Senichi Hoshino, who should be the ones apologizing to the Yankees and their fans.

This sucks. And I'm a Jays fan. I hope he can come back. He was having a great season and I love to hate the Yankees. Love NYC though. Big ups!!!

@MeanRingo: Angels had difficult games when it faced to Jays recently. Blue jay has Kawasaki who prevented Trout's HR. Kawasaki is two-time Golden Glove award winner, has excellent range and instincts at shortstop and has improved on his throwing tremendously since coming into the league. He is also a versatile fielder, having logged time at all four infield positions (including first base) in the pros. Jays will shine in East.
