Yankees send Igawa back to minors

    Where he belongs.

"The Yankees invested $46 million in Igawa last year—$26 million in a bid to obtain his rights from the Hanshin Tigers and a five-year, $20 million contract on top of that. But the returns so far have been meager, with Igawa 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA in 15 major league games, allowing 87 hits and 53 earned runs in 70 2/3 innings."

I can't help but think Daisuke Matsuzaka could very easily be in this same position. He simply gets more run support than Igawa. In any case, the NPB league is all but tapped. No sense in going back to that dry well. Lets hope ML baseball execs have learned their lesson !

That's true. The same could be said of pitchers such as Brandon Webb (a 2.56 ERA, higher than DiceK's 2.45 ERA), Chien-Ming Wang, Jake Peavy, Johann Santana, Ervin Santana, C.C. Sabathia, Cole Hamels, Aaron Cook, Tim Hudson, Brad Penny, Ben Sheets, ... All of these pitchers could easily be sent to the minors if they didn't get all the run support they receive.

freakashow, well said ! Kind of adds credence to my theory that baseball is a "team" sport ! All this focus on Matsuzaka and the resident Nipponjin tends to distract from that point doesn't it.

What does Matsuzaka directly have to do with this thread?

"What does Matsuzaka directly have to do with this thread?"

    About as much as...

"Brandon Webb (a 2.56 ERA, higher than DiceK's 2.45 ERA), Chien-Ming Wang, Jake Peavy, Johann Santana, Ervin Santana, C.C. Sabathia, Cole Hamels, Aaron Cook, Tim Hudson, Brad Penny, Ben Sheets,"

But to be fair, Matsuzaka is part of the vast number of nihonjin that either win or lose games for their teams. Nary a mention of the supporting cast. So there you go.
