Is this a fly in-fly out appointment?

Sounds like they took anyone they could find. I seem to recall a few better choices in the works... what happened? They need someone to blame their next failure on?

"Zaccheroni said developing a rapport with the players will be key to his success in Japan."
I have only seen this done once with success- Bobby Valentine in Chiba with the Lotte Marines. My advice to Zaccheroni- hire Nakata as an advisor- especially in terms of communicating with the team. Nakata- having played in Italy still has some respect in the J football community... he would be an asset. In the meantime brace yourself for the new nickname- and yes you heard it here first "Z Japan" ! Start looking for those "ZJ" jerseys at a hip-hop outlet near you !!!

First of all, I must say that I think the JFA have missed a trick by not appointing Oliveira from Kashima Antlers. Already in Japan and immersed in the football culture here, he would have been my first pick.
BUT, with respect Smithinjapan, this guy has quite a CV to back him up. As the article says, he has a Serie A winners medal in his collection - which is no mean feat to achieve. He has plenty of coaching experience in Italy's top flight and won't be overawed despite it being his first international gig. I know his last season at Juve wasn't the best but he inherited a squad divided and playing for their own agendas (see Diego and Cameronesi).
As one poster says, Nakata would be a great guy to have around. Nakata's fluent Italian would help immensely and hopefully provide a bridge between players and coach. Who knows, it might even lead to Hide being groomed for the top job itself.....we can dream, can't we?
I'm not sure there were many "better choices" - Van Basten, Peckerman, Koeman, Bielsa, Klinsmann - each one would have come with something people would pick holes in. But for now, lets hope he utilises the young talent available - and Japan does have young talent, despite what other people might tell you. Players like Kagawa, Ono, Usami, Hirai, Morimoto can all have good futures providing they have the right coaching and guidance.
Good luck Alberto

This is a good pick by Japan. Zaccheroni is a top notch manager who has plenty of experience and respect in Europe with a resume. Nakata or no Nakata, I don't think it'll make much of a difference. What Zaccheroni needs to do is hire a gorgeous looking Japanese Italian female interpreter.
Valentine only stir problems. The majority of Lotte fans were happy to see him leave. Now Lotte without Valentine is doing just great.

neogreenjapan continues to humour us with such little diddys like this:
"Valentine only stir problems. The majority of Lotte fans were happy to see him leave. Now Lotte without Valentine is doing just great."
If only the facts supported such a misguided post:
From The Japan Times-
"The Marines decided to let Valentine go after the 2009 season after an extensive smear campaign led by Korean-Japanese club president Ryuzo Setoyama, which ironically backfired & resulted in an overflow of support for Valentine by local fans. In the end, Valentine was fired, even though a petition to extend his contract was presented to the organization with 112,000 signatures."
Yep- ol Bobby V the "problem stirrer" ! Bwahaha !

Read Japanese news papers and not articles written by biased Americans, Branded, also why don't you go to Makuhari for yourself and check facts? Oh, I forgot you cannot communicate in Japanese. Has the attendance decreased after Valentine? No, in fact they have increased. Is Marines at the bottom of the table? No, they are at the top with a good chance of clinching the pennant. Valentine stirs problems where ever he is, not only in Chiba but also in US.

Eh... Ore ??? Nihongo de shabberu kotto ga dekinai no ? Ma taihen da ne ! Seems to me 112,000 signatures is all the proof I need. As for this-
"they are at the top with a good chance of clinching the pennant."
"Clinching the pennant" ??? Bwahaha- Bobby V won it all... The Japan Series- the whole ball of wax !!! No wonder they will forever love the guy in Makuhari ! Try out one of them biased articles written by an American once in awhile- you might learn something.

what's shaberru? 喋る?112,000 out of how many fans go to Makuhari a year? It's not a very big ratio. Despite being the 2nd highest paid manager in the world at the time, Bobby would create one drama after one another. In the end both the fans, management had enough. Despite the results. If you had been to any Marine game and actually talked with real fans who know baseball you would know this. Good luck with your Japanese. 頑張れ!Do not give up. He is controversial. He would make a good TV show host. He should start his own talk show.
