I really don't see any advantage unless you also happen to have a Kindle Fire. Will Amazon Japan offer more music (ie. stuff you can get CURRENTLY elsewhere but not on iTunes Japan for a while) than is available on iTunes? Just curious.

The only real advantage is the competition. Amazon often has lower prices than iTunes, so with this competition, iTunes may also lower prices, which is good for us consumers.

terebiko: If they have lower prices that is indeed a boon for the consumer, and as you say especially if it involves iTunes dropping their cost as well. More likely than not, however, they'll agree to charge the same price.

Not having to deal with the PoS iTunes store that's had several hacking problems in the last few years should be good enough for most people. Then there's the fact that you don't pay extra to be able to play it on more than 5 icrap or even a single non-apple device.

Amazon is almost always cheaper per song than itunes. Amazon also allows you to play your mp3s on up to 10 devices rather than itunes' limit of 5 devices. I have bought a number of CDs from amazon over the years and I was pleasantly surprised to see most of them put on the amazon cloud for my listening pleasure. Good luck getting Apple to do that for you.

Amazon lets you play mp3s on any number of devices if you download it and then put it on the device yourself. The limit is there only for streaming services, which technically don't even give you mp3.

Basroil- Apple and iTunes heve never suffered from any hacking problems whatsoever. It's virtually impossible

If you think it's virtually impossible, then there's a whole lot of virtually impossible things happening.

A simple google search with the words "iTunes hacked" will show you that.

I picked one article from each year to satisfy the FACT that their system gets hacked and is bad for consumers, and one of the best reasons to simply switch to amazon.

I haven't tried for awhile, but can people who live overseas download from Amazon.com? I guess I can check now, but we couldn't before. Does anyone know if they will do the same for movies? I can buy and rent movies from iTunes because of my U.S. credit card, but couldn't do that with Amazon.com last time I checked.

Good to have competition. I think there will be a lot of people using both, but I am not one who downloads things from sources other than iTunes. It may not be 100% perfect, but it's the most reliable and secure tech environment for downloadings.

If you have a US credit card you can, I have used their downloads despite being in Japan. For everything else though, try Amazon.co.jp, but they are limited by the leach like japanese entertainment industry, which demands 250 yen per song (meaning you should just go to tsutaya and rent the disk for a day)
