Well what that has to do with Japan? I am member of both Amazon.jp and .com but for example the system recognizes you are outside US and doesn't sell MP3s.

Will it allow you to watch those videos if you reside in Japan?

We cannot get netflix here in Japan...what about this amazon service?

Of course not. They don't believe in free trade in in REAL competition in Japan.

Damn! I really zonked out on that post. Someone asked me a question in the middle and I got distracted. It should have read:

This is Hollywood's fault, not Japan's. Hollywood still insists on region coding/locking movies so they can't be watched in a country other than where they were sold. In the case on online movies, that's usually only US/Canada/Europe.

There are some Japanese services as well but they fall into the same licensing trap as well.

I watch real dvd from all over the world. VLC player lets you get past that silly codex thing. Why do they have that? I am going to write to Amazon and ask.

You can also watch thousands of movies and tv programs on fastpasstv. It is pretty good.

It would probably work if you had a US ip address. I use a free one called Hotspot Shield to watch HULU. I heard that it worked with Netflix, but I haven't tried it. Do a search for free vpn service.

hotspot is finicky. Must load it in several times or it stops. It does work with netflix
