In no way is this kindle fire better than the Google'x Nesus 10. why would anyone pay 400 USD to Amazon for the privilege of spending money on Amazon's web-store?

the kindle fire hd's are crippled android tablets. theoretically, you can only get apps from amazon. and you need a credit card even for free apps! this is a variant on greed, at the same level as apple's. but you can side-load anything you want and kiss amazon's greed goodbye if you wan: just do a search on "sideload kindle fire hd" and you're all set.

If you use Amazon Prime in the US, then these tablets are pretty good value for money in that they give you a great picture for all the movies and TV programs that you can stream from Amazon. It is possible (actually, absolutely necessary because the amazon default web browser is awful) to sideload apps from google play store, even though it's a hassle and the widgets for each app don't show up in HD. However, to buy one of these in Japan is definitely not a viable option because the Japanese version of Amazon Prime offers you only...expedited shpping! No movies, no TV shows, no lending library facilities; just fast shpping.

in other words, buyers In Europe and Japan (both with a hopeless, meaningless Amazon Prime service) are helping to subsidize the far superior American version.

I loved my Kindle DX but the Fire is hideous. The bezel is like a mile wide and it just feels cheap overall. The ONLY positive experience I've had with an Android tablet has been on the Nexus 7. I honestly don't know why the other OEMs even bother...
