ANA launches first iPad app – ANA Virtual Airport
Technology ( 9 )
TOKYO —
ANA on Monday announced the release of a free Apple iPad application available at the Apple App Store. The ANA Virtual Airport is a unique platform offering access to the articles from ANA’s in-flight magazine Wingspan, videos and more, in an atmosphere of a beautifully designed virtual airport.
The app takes full advantage of the touch and feel functionality of the iPad, and at the same time allows customers to view ANA content, which was previously inaccessible through the iPad.
Other highlights of the app include easy one-tap access to ANA SKY WEB and ANA’s Facebook page, with ANA Mileage Club’s personalized information available in ANA SKY WEB and the user’s current mileage balance on the app’s home screen. More features are scheduled to be added, and users can enjoy visiting the ANA Virtual Airport, whether they are about to fly with ANA or relaxing at home.
The launch of the ANA Virtual Airport app marks the first iPad app by a Japanese airline. It is also the first bilingual app by ANA released to all iTunes Stores around the world.

I wonder if the app can figure out how much ANA as ripped you off (through illegal collusion with other carriers) in surcharges.

It's appealing to try. I will .. if I fly ANA in future ... with iPad only (not other tablet makers?)

No, it's because most people feel the ipad is more intimate, easier for sharing with others and has touch capability...something my PC monitor doesn't quit have yet...
Not a bad idea and maybe very appealing to ANA travelers. We'll have to see if other airlines follow. I know that Air Canada's app is handy for checking in and getting alerts about delayed flights.

What?? Not Galapagos?? Not Android??
Nope, like I said... people are designing not even for multi-platform but for Apple's iPhone/iPad only. Not that this is all that great an app, by the sounds of it, but still.

smithinjapan,
I just heard a bunch of figures about app sales for Apple-related products and for Android-related products. I wasn't paying attention, of course, but the figure Billions was connected to Apple products and Million to Android.
People are designing for where they can make the most money the most quickly, I suspect, and the Android app market is, so far, much smaller than the Apple app market. Apparently.

I do not care any trivial features airline industry is trying to offer these days.
Just give me an assurance that I will get to my destination safely. Please invest more in safety. I am easy.
