Technically, adjusted for inflation, they're still over $200 billion behind 1999 Microsoft (Apple's stock would need to hit about $908 to reach that).
Anyways, in business, everything's cyclical. Back in 1999, everybody thought Microsoft would monopolize the world.

IBM was the most valuable company at about $1.5 trillion?

This is a design company with its operations in China. So instead of making oodles of money and supporting American jobs they made billions more .... for what purpose? Only greed. There is no reason otherwise

Analysts are predicting that by the end of 2013, it will be valued above 1 trillion dollars. If iTV proves to be more than a rumor, then the sky is the limit, as it could be a game changer in the image industry the same way iTunes/iPod were to music.

Premium iTV is risky. The HDTV market is already a mature and very competitive cut-throat market, just ask Sony and Pioneer. And HDTVs are increasingly seen as a long-life commodity item like appliances (not premium item like iPads and re-sell or trade-in as easily every couple of years) - mainstream consumers generally want the biggest commodity they can get for the cheapest price. Good luck asking them to pay much over $1000 for new TV nowadays; most won't no matter what, especially for something they can't even take with them everywhere (or at most, just one >$1000 premium HDTV per household that's not expected to be replaced for many years).
Instead of replacing their existing HDTVs, consumers may just prefer an add-on to their HDTVs they already paid hundreds of $$ for. Then again, it's not like the current AppleTV has become more than a niche product. And that's also probably where a >$1000 iTV may be headed - like smart TVs, more of a niche rather than a volume product.

I would never pay those TV prices.
Last year bought a 23" monitor come second display for my desktop for 45,000 yen which is hooked up to Hikari TV via fiber optic internet. Great price great sound which is hooked up to my hifi.
