I think Apple made a big mistake by only allowing use of Apple Pay only in machines with the new NFC protocol. But given that Apple usually makes long term plans, and they succeed, I am sure that Apple Pay will be the benchmark in e-payments in the future. Japan will be THE test for the technology, I am sure Apple is in talks with major banks to introduce it soon.

LosyinNagoya@ I doubt it. Japanese companies are mostly arrogant / greedy and often try to create their own versions of things and resist adopting foreign technology. The approach fails 99% of the time. Japanese banks are probably in talks with NTT Docomo and SoftBank to use a homegrown payment system.
