No matter how Shamesung directly attacks Apple with their low profile, poor taste advertising, they won't stop people from having a good mobile gadget experience. This numbers shows it all.

Apple is going to make a ton of money on this stuff.

On related news, 10 million people live in the USA with less than $2 a day.

Many of these people are upgrading their iPhones from iPhone 4 & 4s. As I've said many times, iPhones do not need to be upgraded every year, which is why their sales flunctuate. Their devices last a long time and stay current technology for years. I have two Mac computers at home. One is ten years old and the other is five years old. I have no intention or need to upgrade them cost they are both going strong and run up-to-date software. I've burned through five of those Windoze things in the same time frame.

They are mostly repeat customers. When Verizon offers $200 trade in credit for Apple 6, the price becomes $99 for 4.7 inch 64GB or 5.5" 16GB. Apple is almost dumping their products to fudge the sales numbers. It's just an inflated number in sales. Apple is worried about the Samsung and their Note 4 which is better than Apple by far.

Say what you want though, apple could wrap a turd and people would still buy it.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Apple is almost dumping their products to fudge the sales numbers. It's just an inflated number in sales.

How is it fudging sales? They didn't release a dollar figure, only a number of handsets sold. If you are saying that people replacing their handsets shouldn't be counted, then no company would have any kind of numbers, as most everyone buying any phone is replacing an old phone.

Say what you want though, apple could wrap a turd and people would still buy it.

Maybe the first time, but not after that. It's all speculation though, as Apple has never released anything on the 'turd' level.

7 ( +8 / -2 )

The only reason the iPhone got bigger is because of Samsung.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

The company said the 4 million orders set a new 24-hour record, beating the 2 million orders in 2012. That was for the iPhone 5, the previous time Apple increased the iPhone’s screen size.

Marketing BS on Apple part, last time they compared the first week sales, whatever makes it look like it is selling.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Everyone is drawn in to believing they need to upgrade every time apple releases a new phone...why? Im still running iPhone 4s...its working perfectly..takes pics..makes messages upgrades to new iOS every time and makes phone calls..what more do you need?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I take enormous pride and deep satisfaction in not belonging to the mindless horde that has become psychologically dependent on these pricy electronic toys. The money I don't spend on them goes to donations to meaningful causes, and when there's a little left over I treat me and the wife to a meal in a restaurant with table service and a wine menu.

-2 ( +9 / -11 )

Does the pedestal come with the territory as well?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Everyone is drawn in to believing they need to upgrade every time apple releases a new phone...why?

Who is saying they 'need' to upgrade? I think most people do it because they want a new phone with better specs than their old one.

On related news, 10 million people live in the USA with less than $2 a day.

Okay... And what have you done for them lately?

10 ( +11 / -2 )

@sfjp330

They are mostly repeat customers.

From a business standpoint, I'd say that's more a testament to Apple delivering on customer satisfaction than anything else!

3 ( +5 / -3 )

with the PR juggernaut that Apple is, they could sell ice to the Eskimos and sand to the Arabs, there are so many better performing phones than the Iphones at lower prices. but hey once you become a Applite theres no other god but Apple, to convert would mean certain death

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

I'm no huge fan of Apple, but I'd say Android is pretty crap, and I say this as a HTC One Android 4.4 owner.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I upgrade every two years when my contract runs out. Had a 3gs and it started slowing down on me, so I got a 4s and then is started slowing down on me. Got a 5s and it's blazing. I like the new 6 and 6+ but I'll just wait 'till nevxt year when they release the 6s and 6s+.

Yeah!

i love it when the luddites posts messages from their pc, connected to wifi, while watching cable tv.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

rickyvee@My pc stays on my desk. My TV stays in my living room, as does my telephone. In other words, my usage of these devices does not infringe on the milieu of others. I don't put myself at risk by checking for messages while crossing streets and I don't bump into people while texting on a crowded station platform. I remain fully engaged with the outside world, instead of being at the mercy of "ubiquitous communications." And I think it's damn rude when I'm taking a meal with someone in a restaurant and they are forced to respond to an incoming call that interrupts our conversation. Call me a luddite if you will, but at least I'm one with manners.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Okay okay okay. Enough is enough. Apple and Samsung and android blah blah blog they're all good.

People relax.

I am waiting for the iPhone 12.

"This just shows how arrogant Steve Jobs was, telling everybody what the proper size for a phone or a tablet is. He would have been too proud and stubborn to change his believes, losing out on millions of dollars."

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Wife and I ordered our 6s yesterday at Softbank in Kinshicho and the place was really buzzing, but they have it pretty well figured out, plus free coffee which was nice.

Yodabashi Camera, where we usually go, didn't have the replica phones, but Softbank did, and it was immediately clear we both wanted the smaller version.

My main problem is that too many apps require the newer IOS's -- I agree that my 4s is good enough, but I ran out of onboard memory. So it will go out to WIFI pasture for podcasts in my morning "information station" (thinking about simply installing it there with its own charger).

Next on our agenda is the aWatch. Too bad there's such a wait, but it would have overwhelmed even Apple to have had the new iPhones and aWatch hit the stores at the same time!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Despite all the snide comments I've read online, the iPhone 6 models are very important because they represent the most radical change in the iPhone design since the original iPhone 4 in 2010, not to mention they represent the first Apple products designed and built without the direct input of the late Steve Jobs. (Indeed, if Jobs were alive today, there would only be one iPhone 6 model with a touchscreen probably in the 4.5" (115 mm) size so it could keep to Jobs' mantra of one-handed operation of most features of the phone.)

2 ( +5 / -3 )

People are obsessed with these phones and other devices . It's hilarious.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

pumpkin: "Everyone is drawn in to believing they need to upgrade every time apple releases a new phone...why? "

Not true. As Disillusion pointed out, and I am one of them, many people this time around have waited to upgrade and are doing so from iPhone 4s. And in any case, before the two-year contract thing came into effect several years ago, most people in Japan changed phones every year when newer models came out.

In any case, the Samsung crew can whine all they want, but cannot deny the numbers, bottom line.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Yeah... the day after Apple introduced the iPhone 6.... sure enough, Samsung had derogatory commercials out about it. They're such petty idiots...

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The one thing that Shamesung and other Android manufacturers will never achieve: Cult status! Hence their envy, reflected in their spiteful advertisement.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

"Say what you want though, apple could wrap a turd and people would still buy it."

Yes, because Applites believe this upgrade to 2012 specs is the best thing since sliced bread. But hey, if that's your thing, whatever makes you happy.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Looks like a great phone, but I wonder what the 6s will look like next spring/summer. Planned obsolescence...it's always been a great money-maker. Used to be cars, but Apple are masters at peeling it down to the core. Why bring out the iphone 6 last year when there's still some mileage left in the old iphone 5?

Just an update ladies & gents - there is a significant line of people outside the Apple Store in Ginza lining up for launch day (19th). The crazy thing is - the guys at the front of the line (about 6 of them) have been there since 9/3... What the...

One even ordered something off Amazon - and had it delivered to his "camp" out the front of the store aha! Crazy, crazy times we live in...

Still waiting for an explanation for all the iHate™.

Its a company. It doesn't make you do anything. It doesn't control your schools, your news, or your social media. It can't tell you what to do, or buy; it doesn't collect taxes (although it does avoid paying them!).

So, please, you are arguing over your favorite color.

Who is offering the trade in? Verizon or Apple? Talk about living in delusion! The crazy sales numbers were completely expected. Apple makes a great product that people love and many would like bigger screens.

Apple is worried about the Samsung and their Note 4 which is better than Apple by far.

Ummm, yeah - shivering in their boots. That's why they made adverts rubbishing Samsung. Oh wait! Sorry, it was the other way around. It's Samsung who are worried! <>It doesn't matter how many megapixels you have, Apple will always make a better complete product of software and hardware.

2020hindsightsSep. 17, 2014 - 07:31AM JST Apple makes a great product that people love and many would like bigger screens.

Huh? Not original. Nothing but a copy cat from Note 2 that was available from Samsung in 2012.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

as Apple has never released anything on the 'turd' level.

Insert smug Gene Wilder Willy Wonka meme here. Oh really? never? not the hockey puck mouse, the Pippin video game console, the Quicktake 200 digital camera, e world.

Yes Apple has released some turds over the years, though the iphone 6 is not a turd, it looks pretty slick, great camera and powerful cpu, gpu chips. It (they) are pretty sweet, the problem is with iphones for some, is the severe restrictions placed by apple on the OS. The majority of people don't seem to care or don't know what they are missing on and Apple are quite happy about that and when they rake in 4 mil orders in a day, you have to tip your hat to any company that can create such demand for such a product. If Apple offered the same functionality as android, that would be a game changer, I'd probably consider getting one. Some apple geeks jailbreak and install cydia OS to get better functionality out of their devices, that is a risky option though.

Watch the commercials without pink apple glasses and you'll see that Sammy hits the hammer on the head!

Yeah, for the shortsighted, maybe. Oh, that's the same size as a Samsung phone I saw years ago! OK, as size goes, yep, you are right.

But there is a world of difference including a far superior camera, a second-generation 64-bit processor (Sammy hasn't even managed to produce a phone with a 64-bit processor) and instead of a lump of plastic, it has a great body.

2020hindsightsSep. 19, 2014 - 07:00AM JST a second-generation 64-bit processor (Sammy hasn't even managed to produce a phone with a 64-bit processor)

Some Note 4 will have 64 bit Exynos 5433 octa-core processor. iPhone 6 encompasses only a 1GB RAM, the Note 4 offers three times more the RAM capacity with 3GB RAM that is considered to be really excellent.

@2020hindsights Be careful about saying "far superior" i found a pretty good website with photo comparisons and some detailed explanations for the apple samsung battle. All of the phones have amazing cameras.
