Apple supplier Japan Display to build LCD screen factory

Japan Display is taking a calculated risk by going ahead with this. Display components are a commodity product but which still require a considerable capital investment. Plus the Korean, Taiwan, Japanese, and, increasingly, Chinese competitors are formidable. I wish the company well.

I am glad they have chosen Ishikawa Prefecture. This is a wonderful place, near nature and culture and now well served by a Shinkansen line from Tokyo to Kanazawa, itself a gem of a city. Hopefully, this can help decentralize the economic structure of Japan somewhat.
