All right! Apple releases a quad-core computer years after other mobo companies do. Cut. Ting. Edge.

@kaminarioyaji, multiply the price by 83 and you'll have a good estimate in yen. Apple's a US company and the author of this article (AP) is a US news source. JT is just forwarding the article on.

PCs have had quads for about five years now. Why are Macs always so fare behind the times? If you want cutting-edge technolgy, get a PC. Whenever the latest, sh*t-hote hardware rolls off the assembly lines, it first ends up in PCs.

It took them awhile to get off the powerpc processor. Seem like they would have been good partners with AMD though..

I assume this "Thunderbolt" port is not compatible with the USB 3.0 standard thats already been out for a while. Nearly 2 years ago i bought a external HD drive in USB 3.0 and its 10-100 times as fast as regular USB.

2 years in PC time is an eon. 5 years is jurassic.

@Pepin: Thunderbolt is not compatible with any of the USB standards. It's also screaming fast - something on the order of 10GB/sec.

21.5'' - US$ 1199 = 96 701.3469 Japanese yen (Yen has been crazy strong lately.)

It is, however, either 104,800 or 108,800 in the Apple Store - student discount available up to 10,000 yen.

27'' - US$ 1699 = 137 027.18 Japanese yen (154,800 in the Apple Store)

I'd need a new desk, too, if I wanted the 27'' one.

I guess they didn't have a choice to go with the quad core, since Intel stopped manufacturing them a long time ago.

The sad thing is Macs have less CPU power than PCs yet run ten times better and reliably. I own both for the record and it's not even close.

Does anyone know if the Apple stores are carrying them yet? Was going to head down to Ginza today anyways, might be nice to finally pick up a new toy. My five year old macbook is getting a little long in the tooth...

My MacBook I bought last summer rocks. Hope the iPad I am going to get does too. I use my MacBook for Photoshop CS5 and Logic and it is screaming fast. iPhone battery though sucks a golf ball through a 100 meter garden hose. Sure wish they would fix that.

Mac Pros have had dual quad cores in them for years, and 32GB of usable RAM. Dual six cores were offered last year with 64GB of usable memory...

@goddog: I don't know which version of the iphone you have, but in some tech forums you'll learn that a recent upgrade eats your battery faster. When Apple realised that they released a fixed upgrade. Google it, I don't remember the details by heart, but this happened to some friedns of mine. Now it's all ok with their iphones.

The iMacs were last updated in July 2010. The new Intel Sandy Bridge quad core processors in this update were released in January of this year.
