as if Apple could careless. Although it could be in their best interest to keep the phones locked so 2nd hand iPhones never get to be recycled.

So, how do I get an iphone on au?

  • Zen_Builder at 11:48 AM JST - 14th July

    Altria.

Right now you can't. Softbank don't have exclusive rights to the iPhone so other carriers might pick it up.

Vodafone seems to be going the blackberry route and I think the other carriers are waiting to see how it sells.

Said that from what I hear on the news. The previous Iphone you could buy and than choose your carrier, don't seem to work like it this time round.

Mostly due to the fact that the carriers are sponsoring the phone(hence the common $299 price-tag vs the real unit price).

Which in real terms means your monthly fees/contract cover the difference, package-plan, etc.

Even if you buy from Softbank, it seems to be cheaper to pay the 80.000Yen(actual unit price) and than just pay the monthly fees vs the standard 2yr contract.

    HTH.

These phones are easy to hack and worth waiting for either the Black Market to catch up or for AU to get their finger out and start offering this phone in its lineup. When they do, I'll get one. (Preferably via the latter means). I ain't signing up to Softbank just to get one of these, Softbank ain't worth it!
