Samsung's next big bet will be its (creatively named) Samsung Pay. Pure coincidence it resembles Apple Pay. Whatever. Anyway, only crazy guys will give Samsung their card number AND their fingerprint.

I'm not sure when screen dimensions became copyable technology...

Apple did't offer large screens in the past because they did't have a good way to support the different screen sizes in iOS until iOS 6. Even then it was only with iOS 8 when a generic solution to be able to use multiple screen sizes including iPad could be shipped in a single application, but still catering for the differences in an elegant way.

Apple are all about the user experience and they didn't want to follow Android where tablet applications don't make use of the extra real estate and look like expanded phone apps.
