Huh? Who can understand media? Just yesterday WSJ said that iPhone 5 release in China was catastrophic, because there were no lines in front of the stores. Today WSJ basically said it was a huge success, because Apple sold 2 million iPhones thru a lottery system, to avoid scalpers like in 2011. And this is Wall Street Journal. Call it senseless.

Actually has nothing to do with it. The lottery system is in place ever since Hong Kong had violence in the lines.

As for the news, the stocks actually dipped below 500 for a bit because the investors were expecting more. It's climbed back up to 520 range, but the outlook isn't great considering Lenovo's LePhone still has more units sold than all apple phones combined.

Windows Phone holds less than 3 percent of the market in China.

With so much invested in Windows Phone, which has only ever been able to scrape the barrel of the worldwide market share, both Nokia and Microsoft are tag-teaming to crack the Chinese market in order to save not only Nokia, but also the Windows Phone platform.

If you read solid news, you'd know that the violence in the lines were caused by scalpers.

How did I know Zichi would be on this thread to have his usual Microsoft bashing!

Apparently you can't read, Lenovo was brought into this discussion by a MS fanboy. Well, adding my 2 cents, it's a pity that Microsoft has just cut production of its tablet...

The LePhone dealt with why the iPhone outlook wasn't doing so well and why their stocks wasn't dropped and didn't climb up instead.

Windows Phone sales in China don't mean anything against the iPhone. It doesn't even contribute to the conversation. Maybe if WP8 phones owned a lot more marketshare and was bringing down the iPhone's sales in China. It doesn't, so it's just irrelevant to bother talking about it.

Nothing, since there are no WP8 phones in China (at least none delivered since they went on sale only a few days ago). The only phones are android, ios, and WP7 (and a few meaningless systems that don't deserve to be called "smartphone").

Yes, but the actual issue is violence, not scalpers. It's like saying that eating sugar makes you fat, when the actual issue is high calories. While the two are highly correlated, only one is the actual cause, the other is a method for that cause.

Samsung is still #1 in Chinese market by far, almost as much and apple and the two others rounding the top five together. They have much more to fear from Lenovo (with chinese preferential treatment) than apple.

Well the rich city elite in China just snapped up their phones, the peasants in the villages if they can ever dream to afford a such a device, will buying Huawei's or some other el-cheapo device for a 1/10th of the price.

If I was a peasant in a village somewhere, I'd just get a Sharp SH7218U. Personally, I think it's a whole lot better than any of the iPhones.
