DoCoMo earns highest marks in customer-satisfaction study

TOKYO —

NTT DoCoMo Inc said Thursday that it received the highest marks among Japan’s mobile phone operators in the 2011 Japan Mobile Phone Service Study, a customer-satisfaction study conducted by J.D. Power Asia Pacific.

This is the second consecutive year in which the company has received top marks in the customer-satisfaction study.

The study examined customer satisfaction with mobile phone operators based on six factors: handset, service offered, network quality/coverage area, cost, handset purchase experience and customer care.

DoCoMo scored the highest in four factors: service offered, network quality/coverage area, handset purchase experience and customer care.

DEFINITELY a plus in terms of coverage, compared to Softbank (although AU is best, I'm told), but can't say anything about the rest.

Docomo is Best no doubt about it...just wish if they cut down the price for data plans.

We switched from DoCoMo 3 years ago to SoftBank because of the iPhone.

Turned out our coverage IMPROVED, not the reverse. No longer get the unanswered "ring ring ring" at peak times of the day, when you know it's actually not sounding at all on the other end.

Anyway, the differences are so much greater with all aspects of smartphones that it's now an apples & oranges comparison between the old standard phones and something like the iPhone 4S.

May just be me, but actually talking over it is rather far down on my priority list now.

It IS nice to be able to do that, too... :)

i am with Hunter Brumfield..for me, Docomo sucked badly in terms of coverage. Cant even get reception in my apartment.

Yep they do right by me. Softbank sucks and Au phones (pre Iphone ) were unimpressive. Up here in the North Softbank is patchy, AU is strong but limited and Docomo is everywhere, almost.

I made the mistake of having a Nokia for Docomo, it was crap! The rates were so expensive! The sound was horrible! Everybody complained when I had Docomo, so now I have been happier with Softbank and I LOVE MY IPHONE!!

What amazed me about my first iPhone (I am now on my third model) is what it DIDN"T have -- a manual.

With my previous phones you got as many as THREE separate English ones. And you had to carry the one with the features in order to be able to use them. Just entering a new phone number in your lookup list was a chore. Remember that? I fumed about it regularly.

With the iPhone, you simply know what to do. It's very intuitive. If there's something a bit off the learning curve, which is rare, you just Google the question. Or now, on some things you can ask "Siri."

I wonder if the fact that you don't need shop assistance (customer care) on the iPhone is reflected in this survey. Your answer in its case would be "Dunno -- I never went."

Like anything else these days - hardly something unique. I never needed a manual for either my iPhone or my (current, happy to have upgraded to) Samsung smartphone.

I'm not sure where people live that they get better reception with Softbank than Docomo. In my own apartment Softbank was horrible, especially for data. I was in Shibuya a few weekends ago and couldn't connect a call. The iPhone NEVER worked in inaka, only if I were actually at a train station. No such problems with Docomo, get coverage pretty much anywhere. Very happy to have switched.
