Facebook battles to stay young and cool

And it seems to be losing that battle, what with its constant pointless updates and continued poor structure. Not to mention the ads that reappear, no matter how many times I tell Facebook to hide all adverts from the responsible advertisers. I mostly just use Facebook out of habit, and several of the pages I "like" provide news and amusement, and also provide a platform for me to share my writing. But that's about all really. Facebook is becoming quite outdated, and I can't remember it ever being cool.

So young people are maturing with the new toy/technology and learning to use it more responsibly.

(Remember when email was new? Everybody wanted to hear "You've Got Mail" and passing around chain-mails while looking to see if they recognize any names on the list.)

I can't remember it ever being cool.

I could. Because I saw all the cool kids were using it and addicted to it.

the info overload is what gets me. there's just so much detritus on FB. people posting about what they had for lunch or someone having a bad day. or someone inviting you to a gig they have. the list is endless. i check FB twice a week, and that's only on weekends.

I don't think it's really losing popularity with teenagers either.

As the middle age/senior citizens get more hooked onto it, they're less likely to jump ship to a bunch of new trendy apps.

Their social world moves a bit slower and once they've "conncected" with old friends on FB, they'll probably stick with that one network.

I don't see FB fading anytime soon. There are now so many people with incredible amounts of info/pictures/connections on it to leave it so easily.

I have never run after a record "friends" number and I do not hesitate to remove the ones posting detritus. Thus I manage a few 40-50 real friends over the world that share things of interest to me and done. It meets perfectly my need.

Just the undesired ads are a real annoyance. But I believe this is the price to "pay" for having this service "free".

You already paid with your own personal info. Don't be fooled by these "free" services.

The FB generation is now entering their 30s, of course it's not a cool playground to them anymore

Is Facebook still around?
