But Facebook had indicated that if fewer than 30% of Facebook’s one billion users voted, the California-based firm would be free to go forward with a plan to eliminate the voting structure and integrate Instagram data for ad purposes.

... except that facebook makes it INCREDIBLY difficult to delete your account, so many of those "one billion users" are people who left facebook long ago. Plus many of us don't log into our facebook accounts regularly. I logged into mine about twice this week and facebook made no effort to remind me to vote (something that would have been laughably simple).

Nope, I call election fraud by facebook!

Democracy? Wait. I use facebook daily and hadn't heard of anything to do with polls until this article. Secondly, facebook must no that it's quite statistically inplausible for 300 million people to vote, when most of those accounts are inactive and dont know how to vote in the first place.

Honestly, I repeat, there were polls???

Facebook knows EXACTLY what percentage of their users are active day-to-day, so it was ridiculously easy to pick a percentage that is higher than that to guarantee that those who did vote were wasting their time.

Someone needs to query Facebook on how many of those "one billion users" have logged in at all in the last week/last month/last year and actually POSTED something that wasn't a remote "like" from some other internet application..

Faecesbook does not care about your privacy and trying to make then do so is pointless. If you don't like it then don't use it.

I have never once been contacted by Facebook with regard to voting for or against proposed policy changes, and I log on about once per day.

Even this most recent vote, despite being widely advertised in the news, was never presented tome as something I could participate in by Facebook.

Something stinks here far worse than that disasterous IPO a few month back.

It's not all that difficult to delete your Facebook acct. I did it about a month ago for a different acct.

I'm not being obnoxious, this is a genuine request. How do I do it? I deleted my account about a year ago and I was most irritated when I noticed that it still showed up on searches about a month later. They may say it is "deleted", but what I found they had really done was merely flag it as inactive, much like your PC at home says it deletes files, but merely marks the file's first letter with a special character to indicate that file can be overwritten at some later date.

I too had no idea. Did all of this occur in the lapse of one hour?

I use Facebook maybe once or twice a week, and then only to send messages to friends who have accounts and to announce blog updates to anyone following them.

The headline makes it sound as if FB was a totalitarian regime and after flirting with democracy has decided to return to rule through oppression.
