This is nuts. So I and all my information plus yours and everyone elses is worth billions? We decry government prying into our privacy but we gave it away to Facebook who monetized it. Ridiculous. It's not worth billions if we gave it away. This is the ultimate shill corporation. Literally made of clouds.

With Google and Facebook and even Twitter of late caving into bans and merging accounts and selling out our privacy, I'm tending to go it alone. There is free server software out there like Diaspora and others that I realize I don't need to be opening myself to be monetized, slaved into someone elses business plan. Diaspora can also log into FB and act as an interface so I'm looking to start using it before the "Timeline" facelift myspace replacement takes hold.

It all is based on email connections so it looks like I'll have to secure my email on its own server at any rate, then start from there.

The governments are not tech savvy enough to understand that this is all turning into a global monopoly. It's time we broke it up ourselves using the free tools that are available. This gives me a reason to learn programming again so at least I'm technical. I'm sure there are many who wouldn't mind not being Googled or FB'd in the future.

Am not a Facebook user. Don't really understand what people see in Facebook.

Without the users the ad revenue wouldn't be in the billions and have investors. Facebook is providing a service for people to exchange their life story while Facebook is making money off of them.

Facebook just gives people a common place to keep in touch or to get back in touch with long lost friends/relatives/classmates. That's easier to accomplish when everybody is in the same site.

(BTW, I'm not a Facebook user neither.)
