Fujitsu on Friday launched its new Raku-Raku Smartphone 2 F-08E from NTT Docomo.

In addition to coming equipped with the latest 1.7 GHz quad-core CPU and other technologies used in Fujitsu's flagship models, the new smartphone is powered by Docomo's ultra-high-speed Xi communications network, and features next-generation WhiteMagic energy-efficient LCD technology. The new display can reduce power consumption by up to approximately 50%, improve the brightness of the display making it easier to see in difficult viewing conditions, such as outdoors on a sunny day.

It also features a new Raku-Raku Touchscreen that even further emulates the feeling of pushing real buttons on a conventional mobile phone. The result is significantly improved readability and ease-of-use.

Fujitsu has also revamped its Raku-Raku Community, an Internet service that lets customers enjoy discussing their interests and popular topics, and has added new group features, as well as expanded communications capabilities so that members can exchange messages.

a smartphone is as smart as the operating system it uses, but apparently this means nothing here? or is it the reporter who is just paid by fujittsu/nttt to exclusively advertise the hardware? is this the reason why japan has lost its top place in technology? i'd like to know is if it runs windows (yuk!), ios, android 4.3 or maybe 5, or some homegrown galapagos OS.

@TakahiroDomingo This phone uses Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but "This model is equipped with ... applications selected by Fujitsu. Applications cannot be downloaded from Google Play. Likewise, Google Maps, Gmail and other Google applications cannot be used."

Raku-Raku means Easy Easy. These smartphones may be very easy to use for a large number of older people as target (not young) who don't want much complicated technology. Many older Japanese today seem they rather would like regular cellphones (or with internet and e-mail use).

thanks for the info @timtak!

I honestly wasn't aware of the super-big-brother-style control that the company exerts over a "consumer". it's quite a crippled device then. i really feel sorry for the japanese, it seems they simply don't know better, and that this is the general status here. I hope there are forums not censored by the government, sorry, i mean by the companies, that tell people how to root or jailbreak the device to achieve a certain degree of "freedom".

= big slow acting buttons (on the touchscreen) for the half blind. = almost as good as a trusty galapagos phone, but they can charge you more with this new phone.

Another attempt to save face over not accepting the iPhone.

without competitions, you probably still using iPhone 2g iOS now mr iFan.

I own both an iPhone and an Android device, and i like them both. The next one should be a Window Phone perhaps.
