TOKYO —
Fujitsu said Monday that it has been selected as one of Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovators as a result of high evaluations earned for its intellectual property rights activities in the areas of patent approval success rate, global reach of patent portfolio, patent influence in literature citations and overall patent volume.
The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator program is an initiative undertaken by Thomson Reuters that analyzes patent data and related metrics in a proprietary methodology to identify the companies and institutions that lead the world in innovation activity. The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator methodology is based on four principal criteria: patent approval success rate, global reach of patent portfolio, patent influence in literature citations and overall patent volume.

Fujitsu have a dreadful record for their IT business in the UK. Late delivery, way over budget, doesn't work properly etc. For a company that is trying to focus on services, rather than hardware, they need to do much better to avoid being wiped out in the medium-long term.

Not sure about current systems, but they used to make nearly all the Mainframes for IBM, Siemens, Amdahl, etc. Used to be all the same they just switched the micro-code and casings.
Was interesting to see that IBM network-servers were actually Siemens, etc.

I could say the same thing about HP, MicroSoft, Dell and other IT-related companies while I worked in the Middle East. But that won't make me say that they are bad companies or that they will lose customers because of the experiences I had with their agents.
In contrast, here in Japan, the customer support for almost everything is great! I don't know what Thomson Reuters used as criteria to rank companies, but it seems that getting into the list is quite a feat.

About 30 Japanese companies made the list, which apparently is not ranked. So why just the article about Fujitsu and no any of the other companies that made the list?

All the computers that we have owned have all been Fujitsu. They have been so reliable and customer service has been excellent. We once took an old Fujitsu computer overseas and when a computer technician opened it up for a minor repair, he couldn't believe how well it was made.
