Google to pay royalties for music used in YouTube video clips

TOKYO —

Google Inc has agreed with Japan’s largest music copyright administration body to pay royalties for music used in video clips posted on its YouTube site.

The agreement allows users of Google’s video-sharing site to freely post video clips using music copyrighted by the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, known as JASRAC.

JASRAC holds some 1.52 million copyrighted themes.

I wonder how much japanese production company's pay on copyrighted music they use in their flaky dramas and pointless shows. I would expect all copyright holders to be reimbursed not just japans.

why would less people post? Google is paying. I say that being able to watch Japanese junk should be free. Google agrees. But they are tapping their huge finical stash and paying the fees. Great!

Google need first to break into japanese online videos market. Right here, the Mountainview company is looking for the best way to make money with his audience. In this attempt, the more visitors Youtube has, the big Google can win. No matter they pay royalties for music used in Japan. In France, politics are looking for tax for online videos plateform.
