Big business for Hitachi in Japan, a nation of 128m.

OMG... Hitachi.. a major break through. There are companies out there already reading brain waves and much more. I'm sick of crap headline news from Japanese companies when they should be more in the realm of a footnote.

Soccer players might be not a good example. The headset has a good chance to slip or fall down, when they are running.

May i sugest they try it out on the TEPCO executives, if it detects any activity at all it may be declared faulty and Hitachi may go back to the drawing board

Is this also capable of detecting the LACK of brain activity??

This might end up in the direction of controlling persons minds like robots.

On the other hand as a toy for the salary-man he can find out if the orgasm of his girl friend is true or fake. Probably will be disappointed most times.

Can I get a company discount? Really want to know what the hell people around this office are thinking some times?

Will it work with the interweb? Really want to know what the hell people on this board are thinking some times?

Perhaps in 10 years you'll be able to buy this for 10,000 yen and plug it into your iphone. It would be a cool toy.

I was going to say that I know folks that would cause Hitachi to bang on ther readout instruments looking for a signal. But you guys beat me to that idea.

Wow, so many skeptics!! This is actually very big news! Yes, there are machines out there that already do this, but they are huge machines in a laboratory where you have to lie still. There have been many experiments in which a subject must go to a laboratory and are asked different questions or undergo simple tasks to see which area of the brain is being active. It's a very sterile and fixed environment so the use is pretty limited. With these headsets, they can study subjects with a minimum of disruption and thereby get a much more accurate idea of the area of brain which is active. My guess is that there will actually be an overload of information and deciphering it will be much more difficult than previous.

Haha Jonobugs, unfortunately that is the way of business. Consumers or the masses are only interested in innovation from companies like Apple. Hitachi's headset may bring something new to the table, but it is not in the way of Japantoday commentators to appreciate such accomplishments. I genuinely though hope that Hitachi's product will improve accuracy of brain readings and make contributions in the field of medicine.

i hope they don't test it on their engineers, they are so overworked that their brain is probably in meltdown mode :p
