    All very cool.

But don't forget the room full of computer programmers and the guy wearing the animatronic suit doing the real work in the background.

ASIMO, cute as it may be, does NOTHING on its' own.

    "conducted" the three-minute piece

Longer than 3 min will mean to plug the bot for several hours.

GG2141: does NOTHING on its' own

If bots had free will, we'll end up like in Terminator, Matrix, etc

GG2141: ASIMO, cute as it may be, does NOTHING on its' own.

ASIMO may not have much artificial intelligence, but the fact that it can calculate and distribute its own balance throughout its movements, and deliver intricate coordination of its limbs is a great achievement and advancement in robotics.

Keep in mind that ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. The robotic motion technologies they develop through ASIMO can be applied to our future cars, walking-assistance robots (as Honda is currently developing I believe), and other human health support robots. They're not necessarily trying to create iRobot here.

    A big applause to Honda.

Ahem! I proudly admit to having sold ASIMO(1) his first ever fuel cell. He even recognizes my face and voice when I visit him. (Sniff! He's the son I never had!)

I am sure the robot from SHORT CIRCUIT could whip up on ASIMO, as well as Herbie the Wonderbug

The larger triumph is not the robot, it's "a Japanese Robot In Detroit".

Don't forget this was the town where just a few years ago you'd get your headlights kicked in if you went into the wrong area in a Japanese car. Where out of work UAW guys applied sledge hammers to junked imports to vent their frustrations. I was there recently and was astounded by the number of Toyota Priuses on the street, a few years back you'd have NEVER seen such a thing.

(Mods, please judge this post on the CONTENT, it is not off-topic. But just in case: Okonomiyaki, Samurai, Cormorant Fishing and KAT-TUN. There, Japanese enough for you?)

Flommytherobot is pleased to see that the humans are turning the arts over to robots for safekeeping. It is easy to comprehend how robot violinists, cellists, winds and percussionists would find a robot conductor easier to follow.

Robot audiences will appreciate the robo-performances as well.

Flommytherobot is pleased to have been of assistance.
