Japan Online Shop English portal site attracts 200 shops in 1st month

TOKYO —

Alex-Net Corp announced Monday that its Japan Online Shop, Japan’s first English-language online shopping portal, has received registration from more than 200 shops during its first month. The site was created for foreign residents of Japan and introduces various domestic online shops offering a wide variety of products, including food, clothing and cosmetics.

In addition to content linking to online shops with multilingual websites and a search function that enables users to easily find the shops and products they are looking for and make purchases, Japan Online Shop also provides users with sales and other event information as well as a chance to enter drawings for free prizes.

The site can be accessed at www.japanonlineshop.jp

Just had a look - white letters on a pale blue backroung makes the site unreadable.

If you think that's unreadable, I suggest a trip to an optometrist

The site is definitely terrible though...

I'll just shop in Japanese, most of the time it's okay, as long as you have an address that Kuroneko can find.

    this is english?

"The best production area of “Mikan” in Japan is “Ma-ana” in Ehime Prefecture. Our brand of KIHIN is one of “Unshu-Mikan” in the “Ma-ana” area and produced by producers and farms selected under strict conditions. The characteristics are extremely sweet and filmy inner peel. We would like to provide customers safe and reliable domestic “Mikan” focused on the highest quality."

if they really want to appeal to english-speaking residents, they should use more english.

I'm all for supporting new businesses which cater for minorities but that website is grim.

I'll stick with Rakuten, Kakaku, and Google Translate thanks.

Shouldn't Japan Today mention that JOS is (or at least was) a sponsor/advertiser? I run one of the stores that JOS links to and it has led to absolutely zilch in new business. I mean, fair play to them in trying to build a business but their lack of understanding of how to communicate with a non-Japanese audience is astounding. I'd love to know how much money is being wasted on all this (including that given to JT).

BTW, their inane tagline of "We bring you the best!" was born out of a phone conversation I had with one their guys. I can't remember what they had before (but it was awful) and I suggested they start by changing it. "You know...We bring you the best Japan has to offer...or something like that, but snappier." Voila!

    Awful site, period!

  • cactusJack at 01:19 PM JST - 17th September

The site looks like an iPod Touch that needs a full system reset.
