I feel like apple is big in japan solely because it is fashionable/popular, considering it's overpriced, less functional than other tech out there. I will never understand why people go zombie mode and praise apple. apple's old slogan used to be something along the lines of "cheaper and more functional" vs other tech. now it is reversed completely

So are you trying to say they shouldn't have released a smart watch since others have already done it?

But if you take that line of reasoning, there would be no other smartphones than the iphone.

Let's see. The iPod didn't come out until about 20 years after the Walkman. That's why the iPod never went anyhere. /sarcasm

Apple naysayers crack me up. Reminds me of the first iPhone release in Japan. There was no shortage of naysayers explaining why the iPhone would fail in Japan.

The Apple Watch isn't the first computer watch. Will it be the best? I don't know but I know that only a fool would bet against it.

Saiaku-san, if you're saying that Apple stuff doesn't provide value to its users, you're not even paying attention. They're "premium" products which is why they cost more, but they also do more. If they don't work for you, fine, but don't delude yourself that a Pebble and an Apple Watch are the "same," or what crappy Dell laptops and the best Apple makes are not very different.

Those who are even remotely interested in the "edition" or gold version ought to explore carefully the actual gold content of the shell and wristband.

Soon everyone will be making a smart watch. They will be stylish and not insanely expensive. I believe the old mechanical watches will survive for old sake's sake. But the smart watch is the wave of the future. It is building on an old watchmaking tradition of adding complications to a time piece. Complications are extras that do something other than tell the time. These required mechanically complexity. Quartz made complications cheaper more compact but minus some of the elegance of mechanical watches. Smart watches will encompass the best of both worlds.

Since your cellphone can easily give you the time a watch is hardly needed. The problem with cellphones is that they do not fit your wrist. =This is basically a wrist computer and not a "watch".

Massive amount of exercise monitors for the wrist now.

The apple watch is not a product for everyone and some will feel that it is not a great watch. Even though all glitches are not unintentional and problematic, the rule of thumb is never buy the first version of a product. Wait until they come out with the second version because the watch will look and be better. Those who spent a lot of money on the first version will be kicking themselves.

Or buy the first version, and when the second version comes out, buy that too.

Ive always used apple computers as i find them simple to use, plus I've owned a few iPods but sticking it on ya wrist when ya have a phone in ya pocket just sounds bizarre to me. If it worked independently then i could see the point, even if it did look a bit star treky walking around talking to a watch.

I ordered one. To be honest, I'm not entirely sold on the idea (well, actually I guess I am sold on it since I bought one), but I'm interested enough to give it a try to see how it is. If I don't find it quite beneficial though, I probably won't buy future versions.

I actually bought it because of the fact that it's connected to my phone. Having meeting notifications and email teasers come up on my wrist are the things that interest me. That and tracking my heartbeat (I'm at an age where my health is something I want to track). I'm hoping I'll be able to stream video from my home as well (Air Video).

I won't buy one. Why do you want to waste money on another gadget which works like your smart phone? I'll buy good expensive Watch instead of this toy. How long this Apple or other smart watch can last long? I think no more than 2 or 3 years and not for me.
