TOKYO —
Jupiter Telecommunications Co, the largest multiple system operator (MSO) in Japan, will provide NHK on Demand distribution service via J:COM On Demand service from December. NHK on Demand is a paid service that allows viewers to enjoy the NHK television programming of their choice, at their convenience.
Jupiter said that viewers will be able to enjoy high-definition quality programming via J:COM On Demand in two forms: NHK Archives Selection and Catch-up Programs.
NHK Archives Selection will offer selected past programs from NHK’s vast library of
approximately 516,000 titles spanning a wide array of genres, including drama,
entertainment, documentary, history, animation, and others. Catch-up Programs will provide programs that have been broadcast within a week via five terrestrial and satellite NHK channels.

So, will this new way of doing business be "added" to the extortion already out there for NHK? Fight the good fight and do not pay.......

"Demand" is a word I already associate with NHK.

Is that like the BBC's iPlayer? The Beeb makes that available free for all UK residents without checking whether or not you've paid your licence fee.

Forgive me but the words "enjoy" and "NHK television programming" used in the same sentence are enough to make me throw up.

Tokyotom: Because NHK gets fees from the viewers, there are no commercials. By the way, with harddisk recorders (time-machine) you can also skip the commercials.
