At a recent wedding the MC took his post and announced that he would read out some ... emails ... that he received from friends and relatives. Somehow I just can't see a large competitive market volume for telegrams. Does anyone actually know someone that uses them anymore? The only possible use I can see would be perhaps sending the Christmas wish list to Santa, but then I'm sure he has email too...

...WAIT I'VE GOT IT, you know all those elderly people who hang around hospitals, well, they don't have email , because they're always hanging out at the hospital, chatting with friends etc. Perhaps this is a secret move by KDDI to capture the hospital groupie market.

I can just picture it now in the hospital reception area "telegram, telegram, telegram for Mr Taro"

...Dear Taro-san, I'm sending this telegram from Higashi-Azabu hospital to you there in Tengachaya Hospital via the fantastic new service from KDDI"

I can see the TV commercials now...

They still have telegrams in Japan??? Wow...

Nippon Express? Oh dear - if they are only half as bad as they were during my move from Europe to Tokyo.... an absolute disaster. Things broken, lost, a bunch of retards doing the unpacking in Tokyo - have never seen anyone as incompetent! So let me take this excuse to suggest NEVER to use Nittsu for relocation! I thought they might actually be good, with the usual careful attention to detail Japanese service, but was sadly wrong!

The company aims to capture about 20% of the market within three years...

Capturing 20% of of the 30 person market that still use telegrams. Considering they are over 100 years old anyway that is some risky maneuvering taking 2 years to do it.
