KDDI's au data service disrupted again, affecting 6.15 million subscribers

TOKYO —
KDDI Corp, the operator of au mobile phone services, said Sunday that data communication disruption which occurred Saturday night affected up to 6.15 million cell phones and smartphones.
A spokesperson said the company’s proprietary ezweb e-mail service was disrupted from around 8:35 p.m. Saturday until just before midnight. It is believed to have been the company’s largest data disruption since August 2003, when about 12.79 million of its cell phones were affected by a communications system problem, Fuji TV reported.
The latest trouble is believed to have been caused by an electricity supply failure to a batch of e-mail servers, but the company added that the incident had no impact on voice calls and Internet access. The company speculated that the failure may have resulted from an increase in smartphone data traffic.
Industry analysts say a similar incident affected up to 1.3 million users last Thursday, when some au smartphones were temporarily unable to access the Internet.
The infrastructure problems come shortly after the government cautioned KDDI’s competitor NTT Docomo Inc and urged it to implement countermeasures such as improving its facilities following a series of service disruptions since last year.
The Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry ordered the company to submit a report on the improvements by the end of March, Fuji reported.

Can anyone report in full details if they had issues with their AU phone lately?

Misleading headline, since it was only their inhouse email service.

"trouble competition" between NTTdocomo and au...hope Softbank remains aloof.

Was wondering what happened! Got worried they cut my account off for overuse! Lol! The disruption definitely affected more than just the email service.

I have the iphone 4s with KDDI, and since day one, I haven't received my keitai email straightaway like I did with my old phone. Sometimes the delay is well over an hour - Have any other people experienced this? I keep meaning to ask at the AU shop, but somehow always forget...

kaminarioyaji - yes, I've had problems with the same thing since I started back with AU in January! My girlfriend and I were also not receiving texts/messages immediately on Saturday night. It still isn't 100% even now! I'm also having several other problems with the AU service and seriously beginning to wonder if I've made an error call on going back to them. It doesn't compound the fact that there servers are not going to be at full-capacity (ala-SoftBank/AT&T/etc) until March anyway! And I've been waiting a week for them to justify a ¥24,000 phone bill for a 2 week period where only 3 calls have been made! They were supposed to call me today but didn't!

Bookowls - I didn't change company, only the handset; I was wondering if my problem was related to the phone and not the server... Which one I wonder.

I never have major problems with my iPhone. Some times mail might be a few hours late. But Yahoo Plus does the same thing. No mail is good.
