Call me cynical if you will but I have serious doubts about this. However, playing on the paranoia of the Japanese always sells product.

I agree that the paranoi is running pretty high right now. Here as well as in western countries. I'm not sure if i'm cynical about the material or not, but good hygiene would make it a lot less necessary. Learning not to cough all over people nearby, coughing into the inside of the elbow or into a tissue then throwing it away or washing hands after coughing (at least doing one of the above) and always washing hands in warm water with soap would all lower the need for a fiber that breaks up the virus..except on the inside of the elbow.
These simple methods in addition to what the Japanese are already doing would seriously lower the spread of the virus.

So this means that if you have the flu, you can put one of these over your hed, and protect others from getting it? Or will they make masks out of it? Wash your hands people, do not touch straps on trains or escealators, and sterilize your change. I do not turn off the water after washing my hands, until I have dried them with a paper towel, and use the towel to turn the water off. I also try not to breath in public places.

"Textile maker Kurabo Industries Ltd said Monday it has developed a fiber that inactivates influenza viruses in cooperation with researchers at the graduate school of Hiroshima University"
I'd love to know how researchers at Hiroshima University manage to collaborate with a fiber.
