Marubeni starts operating mega-solar power plant in Oita

Marubeni Corp's fully owned subsidiary, Oita Solar Power Corp, on Wednesday held an opening ceremony for a mega-solar power plant in Oita City, Oita Prefecture.

Mega Solar was constructed in coastal industrial area No. 6 in Oita City for the purpose of power generation and sales to Kyushu Electric Power Co for a period of 20 years. Commercial operation was advanced by 50 days and commenced on March 12 this year with construction having started in March of last year.

Total power capacity amounts to 82.02MW, the largest in Japan among individual company projects at a single location. Expected annual power generation will be 87 million kWh, corresponding to the annual power consumption of 30,000 ordinary houses, together with a reduction of 35 thousand tons of carbon dioxide.
