And then, true to form, they'll announce no more support for Windows 8. Talk about monopoly abuse.

Windows XP had 13 years of support. Win7 will be supported till 2020, and Win8 till 2023.

Apple is the quick-triggered one.

"Windows is still a core part of Microsoft’s business and dominates the desktop computing market with 1.5 billion users. But the growth of smartphones and tablets means Windows now runs on only about 14% of computing devices worldwide, according to tech research firm Gartner. "

If there are 1.5 billion Windows users, but due to the growth of smartphones and tablets, Windows now runs only 14%, or about one-seventh of computing devices worldwide, wouldn't that make the world population about 10.5 billion?

Lessee... 1.5 billion Windows users... representing 14% ( one-seventh ) of computing devices... meaning the other six sevenths ( 9 billion ) are using smartphones and tablets...1.5 billion plus 9 billion equals... 10.5 bilion! No?

Isn't it obvious each person can have multiple devices, for example a person could have a windows laptop(from work), have a personal android phone and an ios tablet..

Apparently not.

Apple is the quick-triggered one.

Apple gives free updates (or at least, the last two have been free), so they don't need to support old versions ad infinitum.

Oh good grief, I forgot about the otaku...

Oh good grief, I forgot about the otaku...

if everyone who owned both a computer and a smartphone was an otaku, there would be so many otaku out there as to make it the norm. In fact, in the first world having both already is the norm.

Are you kidding? Most smartphone users would never bother to fire up a monstrous, dinosaur computer, ha ha

There are legitimate reasons people may not want to (or can't) upgrade OS but still want to be supported. People appreciate the options for more years.

And once again you show you didn't understand the numbers posted in the article.
