Namco Bandai to invest in French game software marketer

TOKYO —

Japanese toy maker Namco Bandai Holdings Inc said Wednesday it has concluded a basic agreement with French game maker Infogrames Entertainment SA on investment in a new game software sales unit in Europe. Initially, the Japanese maker plans to hold a stake of about 34%, worth some 30 million euros, in the new firm, to be set up by Atari Europe SAS, an Infogrames subsidiary, by spinning off Atari’s European sales division.

Namco Bandai will assess the assets of the new firm in order to decide on its investment scheme and amount. It is considering making the new firm a wholly owned subsidiary, the Japanese maker said.
