"NEC Electronics Corp and Renesas Technology Corp said Monday they have agreed to merge their operations and form the world’s third-largest semiconductor maker."

I wish them the best of luck, but Renesas was not successful after being formed from a merger between Hitachi and Mitsubishi's semiconductor businesses about six years ago. I bet we'll be hearing more of the same from this move in a few years. This article mentions a couple of foreign semiconductor companies that are in trouble, but fails to say that Renesas was getting its butt kicked from day one by several others. I also wonder about how the Hitachi-dominated Renesas workforce will fit in with NEC. Ganbatte!
