“We’re outraged to learn that Netflix is apparently throttling video for their AT&T customers without their knowledge or consent,” Jim Cicconi, AT&T senior executive vice president of external and legislative affairs wrote in an email.

Of course, because now you can't charge as much for when users exceed their data caps.

Like it or not, Netflix does realize AT&T and Verizon cellphone service customers in the USA are subject to severe data throttling if they hit their monthly data cap (usually between 3 to 10 gigabytes per month depending on the service payment plan). As such, Netflix had no choice but to limit the data transfer rate to around 600 kilobits/second (which is more than though for clear 480-line progressive scan video).

Besides, what's the point of HD video on a cellphone with a touchscreen of 140 mm (diagonal) size or smaller, where the vast majority of cellphones are sized?

What about in Japan? We are in Japan correct?
