One less thing to WORRY about; I don't even HAVE a cell phone.

You mean the iPhone prison doesn't keep malware out? Shocking...

The key words here are ¨Chinese 3rd party store¨. Who the hell would connect to something like that? I only download from Apple.

@scipantheist, Although no system is impenetrable, it is actually the 'broken' prison that allows most malware to run. It starts with the jailbroken devices and unauthorized app distribution systems, then travels through the devices whose operators have chosen to run as admin, and/or disable app verification systems.

i find it interesting that two American Government branches are mentioned as threatening. :P

All the same, I'm guess you have a computer. In any case, I'm no more worried than before I read the article -- so not much at all.

third-party Chinese app store, Enough said....

Good thing I don't have an iPhone anymore, and will more than likely never get one again. Curious to know what it does to MacBooks though, or if it only uses these as a vector.

But it's only a concern if your phone is jailbroken.

Before deriding those with "jail-broken" ifones, at least two questions should be asked:
Why are the factory phones considered "jailed"?
Why do some users find it necessary to "jail-break" their devices in the first place?Could itI possibly be that some independent-minded users prefer more freedom in using their devices that they have bought and now own?

Because the underlying OS/File system cannot be accessed by owners of the phone, and 3rd party software cannot be installed on the phone. Only software on the itunes store can be installed, and as that software has to be approved by Apple, it means there are limits on the types of software that can be installed - including no adult content.
To be able to install apps that Apple has not approved.
I used to jailbreak my phone every time a new jailbreak was released, but with each successive IOS update, I found there were less apps I wanted/needed to install that required a jailbreak. With IOS8, I haven't jailbroken, and I haven't seen any need to jailbreak - everything I used to do has now been included in IOS.

Dunno why my post got downvoted. It's true.
It's only a concern if you install hacked software on your iPhone, i.e. it's jailbroken.

@Fandango: welcome to the world of Apple haters, they'll be against iDevices no matter what. If it's good, it's good only for Apple. If it's bad, it's bad for everybody. According to their beliefs. LOL.

Strangerland, thanks for helping make my point. Users jailbreak their devices in order to have more freedom of choice in apps.

I agree. It's why I did it. But if you are going to hack your phone (and jailbreaking is hacking), you have to accept responsibility for the added risk the hack incurs.
